My internet stinks here, but its the only choice I have where I live. Anyway, I want to plug my laptop directly into my DSL modem, but its connected to a desktop in my home office right now. If I unplug the modem, and plug it into a jack in a different room will it still connect to the internet? Thanks

  1. as long as its the same phone number, no problem

if you happen on about $50-100, get a wireless router and wireless card (most laptops are wireless equipped, but not very good) We have 2 wireless laptops and 1 tower usually running at the same time. We use a Linksys router for the laptops and can get about 300 ft before losing the signal

  2. Yes, Should do.

  3. yes it will.. to any phone line in your house...Try it , it won't hurt..

  4. Depending on the wiring in the house, and the distance from the DSL suppliers equipment, you might notice a difference in speed.

It is usually suggestable to get a 'home run' or dedicated phone line back to the box on the side of your house that keeps old wiring from affecting the signal.

Back when it was nothing but telephones it didn't matter if they ran 3 miles of phone cord through your house before getting to the jack, but DSL is a lot more sensitive.
