  1. It doesn't make any thing more less or less protected

    The only thing that does that is a good firewall.

    Another thing about security is make sure you have a anti spy ware application and do scans with that as well and virus scans.

    This will check Key Loggers which is what captures your personal information when typed.


  2. New tab makes no difference.  Make sure that the site you are paying to uses at least 128 bit encryption which will protect your payment details.

  3. If your using that kind of site you will see somewhere on the page a closed padlock. Either up by the address bar or in the bar next to the Internet logo.

    If that is displayed then you are perfectly safe. All information between you and the site is locked and encrypted.

  4. Tabs don't affect the level of security. Use a good fire-wall, Anti-Spyware/Virus, etc.

    As for with IE (or any browser) check the web page address if it is http:// or https://  in the latter the s stands for Secure and is a guarantee that you're information is encrypted to maximum security.
