Question:

If I paint my wood door a darker brown, will it look like the wood is darker brown or will it be obvious?

Or should I just spring for a new door lol

  1. If you paint it darker brown it will look like a door painted darker brown.  Paint is paint.

    If on the other hand it is an unpainted door and you stain it darker brown it will look like a darker brown wood. If you stain it put a satin finish to seal it.


  2. A painted wooden door will look like a painted wooden door, whatever the shade. Instead, go for wood polish...you can have your door polished in any shade of brown - light or dark, or even in rosewood color and then seal it with varnish coating.

  3. Unless you're prepared to strip the old paint, sand and stain the old door then get a new one and stain it. Either way, it's a bit of work but you'll be happy after all is said and done.

  4. YOu don't have to buy a new door.  If it's painted strip the paint and stain and varnish it.  If it's already stained, sand it down a Little and just re-apply a darker stain and re-seal it.  It will look like a brand new door!  Plus new doors are really expensive.
