So, if I take and pass the bar in Ohio, how do I go about getting a license to practice law in another state? Do I also have to take that state's bar exam, or can I just submit paperwork showing that I was licensed in Ohio? If you want to get a license in another state, do you have to show proof of employment to get a license?

  1. I would think you would have to pass the bar in whatever state you decide to practice in.

  2. Ask a lawyer.

  3. Every state will have their own policy on how they handle people who are licensed in other states. Some states may require you to re-take the bar in that state, others might require some additional training or testing in order to transfer your license.

Honestly, if you can't figure out how to look up the laws on how to become a lawyer in a particular state, then you probably aren't qualified to practice law in that state.

  4. See the site below for reciprocity for each state.
