If I placed a razor blade in the middle of my crack & farted, could I theoretically split an atom?

Would a dull razor require higher speed?

If I could actually do it, would people start calling me particle accelerator guy?

Is this a physics question?

  1. A razor, even a brand new one, is nowhere near thin enough to split an atom.

  2. As previous answerers noted, an atom is way smaller than the thickness of a razor.

However, there is actually another effect involved. Newton remarked that the smallest particles cohere by the strongest forces. That is, if you start with a glass of water, and then break it up into fine droplets, and then break it down to individual molecules by vaporizing it, and then split those molecules into atoms, then ionize the atoms into plasma by stripping away electrons, then decompose the nucleus into protons and neutrons, each step requires way more energy than the previous one. The amount of energy required to break down an atom into smaller particles is too high to be achieved through everyday physical processes.

  3. well not sure but im pretty sure you cant.

  4. hahahahahahahha! dude you should totally try it! ill give you 100 points if it works! well then you'd probably be dead, so it doesn't matter but still!

  5. There is no way you can split a atom.

  6. More likely your name would "he who speaks with forked-f**t". Light one side and see if the flame goes in and then OUT. If you can break wind powerful enough to come close to splitting an atom, you should hire your self out as a freelance photographer and tour the universe (extraterrestrial) with a digital movie/still camera as "f**t-man".

  7. Not even close. The edge of the sharpest of sharp razor blades is still going to be absolutely huge when compared to atoms. It's like saying you're going to use an object the length football field to try and split a sunflower seed in half.
