If I plan to upgrade on my first mountain bike's crankset, what should I get?

Right now I have a single-piece triple crankset, on which the rings are 24-34-42 in size. It has been creaking, as well as making other funny noises. Also the teeth have been bending, so I'm thinking it's not very good. I want to get a solid, stiff triple crankset, at a reasonable price. I would like the rings to be 22-32-42 and replaceable. However, I do not know very much about mountain bikes as this is my first one, so if I am out of line, please inform me.

  1. You may want to look at this one. It has everything you want and is cheap. You will have to buy a new bottom bracket to go with it. Nashbar can help you with it as well.

This bottom bracket will work but you must know the length and shell size. Again ask Nashbar techs.

You'll need a BB tool to install.
