My son has been having problems breast feeding because he was giving a bottle no he's been bottle feeding for the past 2 days..I'm hoping that if I pump him bottles he'll want breast milk instead of formula...but I still want him to latch on because I have a manual pump & it takes like 2 hours to pump 1 1/2 ounces

  1. You need to get him on the breast. He wants the milk, formula is nasty. But the bottles are teaching him that he can get more milk at a faster flow with less work. Remove the bottles and spend some days trying to get that kid to latch. Contact the lactation consultant from where your baby was born and discuss fixing his latch and the possible temporary use of a nipple shield to try to bring him hack to the breast. Oh, and NO pacifiers! They make latching hard, too.

  2. My daughter is 7 weeks old and I pump enough for  2 or 3 bottles a day. She still latches on. First I highly recommend buying a pump. I bought one from Walmart for about $50 which works fine. Second seeing a lactation specialist wouldn't hurt. Last formula isn't that bad, breast milk is better but not everyone can breastfeed exclusively. I give my daughter formula also once or twice a day and she is happy and healthy. Good luck and trust your instincts.

  3. You need to talk to a lactation consultant today!!!  You need to get him back on the boob and you may need a supplementer for this, seek professional help asap

  4. Get a lactation consultant and contact local Le Leche League asap. Most hospitals rent breast pumps keep pumping to keep your supply up and ditch the bottle right now. Feed him with a medicine dropper instead. I know it stinks, I had to with my son for the first five days but it was worth it! Keep it up, you'll do great, you both just need practice and some help. Yay breast feeding momma!

  5. I wasn't able to breastfeed immediately after the birth of my daughter because I delivered by cesarean so she was given a bottle.  Once I was able I started breastfeeding her.  It took a few tries but she got it.  She's five months now and I still breast and bottle feed.
