Question:

If I puncture a bruise with a needle or cut it open will the blood drain and pain subside?

I have a very bad bruise on on of my toes and it is now preventing me from walking normally. It gives me an incredible pain and even the slightest bump shoots pain up my foot. It's created a big swelling and I'm wondering if I take a needle and drive it through a little or cut the skin open a little if the blood will drain out and the pain subside. I did a similar thing with blood under the nail and a fiery red paper clip.

THANKS!!!

  1. I don't believe I would do that because you could cause yourself more problems. A bruise is buildup created by normal bodily functions. You don't say what happened or when, but if it's been more that 24 hours, why don't you try soaking your foot and toes in hot water adding Epsom Salt in, read directions on the bag. Your body will eventually absorb the blood, the heat of the water and the Epsom Salt will speed that along.  Take a Motrin for swelling and the pain about 600 Mg's will do. You should have iced that toe when it first became bruised. You could still try the ice and see if it helps, but I believe the heated water will do a better job. Puncturing the bruise is not the same as under a finger nail, because you don't hit the skin and the tightness of the nail against the toe makes it hurt. The blood builds up a pressure because it can't go anywhere, that's why your toe is swollen, it's building up under the skin and pushing it out. Best of luck to you sir.

  2. No it will not, it will, however, make it hurt worse.

  3. the blood that is brought to the surface during bruising is not like a blood lister it is spread threw many of the tissues . Where a blister is isolated to one area. The bruise is old blood in damaged tissue your body simple has to reabsorb it so the tissues can heal properly and correctly ,to lance it or try to drain it will only add to the damage and you could run the risk of infection

  4. a bruise is a collection of platelets repairing your body. Many people think that opening it will release pressure but it will not, it will only hurt more and then may become infected. I suggest putting ice on it at night and taking some tylenol to help with the pain if needed.

  5. No. pain is a signal/information generated by the injured part not a thing.
