If I purchase the Switched on Schoolhouse used from someone on Ebay will it be any different from buying it new?

Can I register it? Will I need to register it? Any advise on purchasing a new vs used program for home school curriculum

  1. SOS is *very* buggy.  That's why every year they come out with a new version.  Instead of doing like most companies and just issuing a free update with a few changes, they have to revamp the entire program every year.  I've had a few courses over the years (purchased very cheaply) and I give them up after a couple of days.  The lack of professional programming drives me nuts, coupled with the poor graphics and slow response.  If I want/need the SOS content, I'll just purchase the "accompanying" AOP Lifepac course - even though my DS and I prefer electronic media for courses.

  2. The benefit to new is that it is up to date, and you can always sell it yourself.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about registering, but that's me.

I have heard mixed reviews about SOS.  Everyone has liked the content, but have heard of various and frustrating technical problems.

You may wish to read some reviews before you choose.

    I like www.homeschoolreviews.com

  3. You will be able to register your product, if you buy it used, but you have to ask the seller to send you the registration key or product key with it. Otherwise, you may not even be able to load it on your computer.

I've ordered many used SOS CDs on eBay and never had any problems. Just make sure the CDs you bid on have the instruction manual included, if you have never used SOS before. This will help you know how to get around the curriculum much easier.

My philosophy is that if you don't need to buy something new...get it used!  The advantages to new curriculum is that there are no marks whatsoever in the text.  The advantage to buying used curriculum is that it costs a heck of a lot less.  Just make sure you get an accurate detail of any writing in workbooks, etc.

Always ask questions before buying used stuff!!
