Question:

If I put this on my application, would they look badly upon it?

I'm applying at Staples and on my application where you can fill in the previous employment there's a question that asks 'May we contact your previous supervisor for a reference?'. If I filled in all the information from my job, but checked 'No' for that question, what would they think?

I just haven't kept in contact at all with anyone from that job, let alone my supervisor/boss, so it would be odd and awkward for me to call asking if they can be a reference for me. Another thing is that I quit that job a year ago, so would they even remember me?

I would like to put the information down because it is related to the job that I am applying for. Also, if I started at 8.00 at two previous jobs, would it be fair to ask for 8.50-9.00 as a starting wage?

Thanks! :D

  1. you will have to put down all the jobs you ever had and the passed and never ever leave any thing out because the people you are applying for do back ground cheacks to see who you ever worked for and if you ever been in to troubles with the law for any thing

in if you ask for $8.50 are $9.00 they do look at your work history and if every thing is fine then yes if not they will start you at what ever they pay you a hour and what state you live in

  2. They will only contact to verufy the job.  That is part of running a business.  There is nothing akward about it - they get calls all the time to verify employment.

Unless you got fired and are not elligible for rehire, then indicate that they CAN call them.

  3. They shouldn't make a big deal of it.  It's a common situation.

  4. Usually, you only check "no" if you are still working at the job and don't want them to know you're looking.  Since you are obviously not working there, checking "no" makes it look like there was trouble.  They are not looking for a reference.  They are looking to confirm your prior employment.  Checking "no" was not the right thing to do.

If you have experience, it's fine to ask for a higher hourly rate.
