  4. The volume/speed button on a radio/fan is just a variable resistor (potentiometer). By increasing/decreasing, you are just changing the value of the resistance in the circuit. As a result, you are also changing the current in the circuit.

    When resistance decreases, current increases (Ohms Law)

    V = I * R

    I = V/R

    For the same voltage, as resistance decreases current increases.
