If I receive a check for a scholarship that is payable to me...?

Can i cash it in a personal checking account? Do the organizations ask for a canceled check or something from the university?

  1. no you can cash it youll be fine


  2. If you do get the check and is written to you, then yes you could do that. But i must warn you that if they ask to prove that you used it to pay for your school, then you better have proof or else you could lose your scholarship.

    Also most scholarships would mail you the check, but you cannot cash it in for your self because it is written to your school and not you. In other words, most scholarships can only be cashed in by the school and not you. It is just your responsibility to give them the check.

    If the check is written to you and you can put it in you checking account, just be careful. I would just recommend you to give it to your school.

  3. They won't, but you'd probably want ot put that amount of money on a new check and get the university to put it off your tuition.
