If I said, "look, I'm not interested" to a thug, what would happen? ?

Thugs and gangstas p**s me off. They are annoying clones that need to just get out. Most respect me, because they see I'm the type that will demand respect and definately shows respect for myself. I don't want to be mean, but, how do I just say get away? I'm moving to a bigger city soon and this one guy I have talked to on various occassions has warned me that thugs might approach me.

I think you have to relax a bit, quit worrying about thugs "approaching" you, they have a right to walk around in the same space as you :P

you could say you have HIV, but aside from that a firm "not interested" is the most you can do. Now if someone is continually harassing you, you can get a restraining order.

Tell them that you have a man. Some thugs are just in it for the fashion and will back off.  Give them the evil eye, it works for me. If none of those work i suggest a good pair of track shoes.

Never irritate or insult this people.

Just try to tell him no, and walk away fast, but not running unless he chases you. Running can make him think that he's gonna be spotted.

Go near cops if necessary, but never insult them...dangerous \:

Well relax! A big city does not really mean a place infested with thugs and hooligans. But it is always good to be on your alert at any given place. If you find any guy making obscene gestures i would advise you to best ignore because many at times guys do such things to garner attention. So ignorance works best. Also always try to be in a group it makes you feel confident. Also present yourself with great dignity which will ward away any hooligan and always be prepared to defend yourself if a situation arises.Hope my answer has helped you in some way. ALL THE BEST!

It's going to be hard to tell just by looking at someone you have never seen before if they're one thing or another.

Probably best to be polite but firm to people, and keep on walking.

As a former member of a self-defense class, I would say a swift kick to the testicles and a good a'legging after that would suffice for you to get away from any man-thug.

The key word is might; thugs aren't just located in big cities.  Get to know the good good areas and the bad areas.

No worries move into Ms Happy's neighborhood, perhaps she can fashion a jail out of silicone, Popsicle sticks and chicken wire.

Generally not talking back and keeping it moving may be a good idea.  Why would you have a dialogue with someone you feel is disrespecting, anyway?
