I keep my apartment very clean, no food ever out, dishes cleaned right after meals. I saw one in my kitchen about two months ago and had the apartment treated, then saw one last night in the bathroom. No signs of them anywhere else though (droppings, etc)

  1. it is most likely just stray cockroaches that come in from under stuff. if you see more than one in the same place i would start to worry.

  2. Call the landlord and have the apartment treated again.  They could be coming from your neighbors apartments.

  3. For around the base of walls i would use Combat Roach Killing Gel (any store) It could be that there is something (like rain or temps) driving them into your apartment.

  4. It might be that you brought the critter home in a shopping bag.  They do multiply like crazy and one cockroach can turn into a thousand in a very short time.  You say you had your apartment treated which is a good thing but it may take two or three treatments to get rid of them all.  If they are coming in from an outside source such as coming from another apartment by crawling under the door and such, you may have to treat the apartment on a regular basis.  Southern and eastern states are good for them.  Cleanliness and chemical treatment such as spraying around the baseboards and such is the best weapon against them.  They hide in cracks, crevices and walls.  Also behind cupboards and such.  I had tile floors in Washington D.C. which I kept shinny and slick and that tended to keep them from coming in from under the door.  They seemed to resist walking across the slick floor.  Whether this is true or not, I can't say but it seemed to work for me.  A lot of places in D.C. have ivy planted in yards and on buildings and you find cockroaches in the ivy and around the outside shrubbery.  For the most part they like dark places so they will hide almost anyplace during the day.  If you have spotted two of them, then there are more.

  5. They are in the walls or other dark areas coming out at night.  Hopefully your infestation is light.  You can use boric acid (roachpruf) along the baseboards, back of cabinets, under stove, refrigerator, etc.  Remember to replenish the stuff when you vacuum along the baseboard...LOL!

Good for you keeping a clean place, but you could have slobs on either side of you who keep the roach population well fed.
