Question:

If I send an e-mail welcoming a new member to the group, how does each person respond on their own?

Everytime I send an e-mail to the group, some members respond thinking that their e-mail is going to the whole group and it just goes to me.

When I welcome a new member and send that to the whole group, how can individuals respond to the new member and I can see when they do?

  1. ***** with it set to reply to all, the default will then be the group address, and they'll post to your groups archives, members will get these as e-mails if they're set to individual, or can read them off the group page. you will get them as well per your mail settings.  members can change the default by back spacing at any time in e-mail or there is a drop down when posting off the group, however most groups are just that- a group of people to share- I'd just send reminders that replies have the address of the group, so all will benefit. things that should be private are things like sharing personal info ike addresses and phone numbers- I also offer my members assistance if they need help, it helps members know you're willing to help them with confusing group settings and how groups work and what you really would want for your group.****

what are your settings for reply to? you can set the default to reply to group-

sometimes, members are unsure just who to reply to- some groups other than Yahoo, the default is replying to that member and you have to directly change the address to send it to the group. sometimes a little how-to reminder file helps members to know how and what address to reply to. since some groups don't want alot of posts to the group- some do, instructions can help members know what you want.

we get e-mails to the owners address, amny have no idea that isn't only going to owners, not the whole group.

  2. You probably have your group's Reply to set for Group Owner.  You can easily reset the "Reply to:" for your group's messages to be posted on the group page plus go out via email to all members including yourself.

    Sign in to your group.

    Click on Management.

    Under Group Settings, click Messages.

Scroll down to Posting and Archives and click on Edit located to the right.

In the Reply-To column, select "All Members".

    Click on Save Changes.

Individuals can then open your welcome messages that you post on the group site and click "Reply", then type their message of welcome for the new member, and click Send.  They will be posted on the group site for all to view. You, your new member and all members who have their email delivery set for Daily Digest or Individual emails will get that message via email.
