at my school/college? I will be living on my own in an apartment and wanted to know that if I take my laptop out of my home and want to use it at school, would that be possible or will it depend on the school? What things would I need? This is a new area for me.

  1. Note that if you live off-campus, or even outside the dorms, you may not be able to use the school's network.  They only wire their own buildings, and in off-campus housing, the distance may be too great for their wifi network, if they have one.

    Hope that helps.

  2. your college should provide you with the student Net id and password. Usually its your user name as your social S# and password is the pin.

Once you log in you'll be able to use internet in your campus.

  3. If your college has a wireless network, then yes, you will be able to access it with your wireless enabled laptop.  Chances are, your college will have a wireless network, but if it does not, you can still connect to their network with an Ethernet cable.

Note that your college may have require a WPA/WEP key to connect to their network.  If this is the case, you will have to ask someone to find out what it is.
