If I shutdown my computer while it is downloading something

its not best to do that but you shouldn't have problems just don't expect to have what your downloading when you turn it back on instead try hibernation or standby

as long as its not a windows update you should be fine just shut it down correctly, most downloads will let you resume the download from where it was at when it was stopped and windows update will complete before it shuts down as long as you don't lose your connectionn

Your computer will not get messed up while downloading if you shut your computer down.  The program or file that you are downloading will be incomplete so you will have to download that program or file again.

No. It'll be fine. Just restart the download. It may even pick up where it left off before it was shut off, too.

It could. But whatever you're downloading would get lost too. If you want to shut down your computer to stop it from downloading then there is probably a 'cancel' button somewhere on the page. Or you could try Alt, Ctrl, and delete.
