If I sleep with my mouth open at night, and just got wisdom teeth out am I more susceptible to get dry socket?

When is the period one gets dry socket? When am I in the clear? What should I do at night if it does make me more susceptible to get it?

  1. As far as I know you can't get dry socket from mouth breathing. It is caused by the removal of the blood clot covering the bone. That happens from rinsing your mouth after extraction, sucking through a straw etc. So definately follow the instructions given to you and you will be fine.  If you have stitches then there is no way to get dry socket as there is no chance of bone exposure. If however you don't have stitches, then don't vigorously rinse your mouth, get lots of rest, use the gauze given to you. Dry socket symptoms start 1-2 days after extraction- very painful, you will know if you have it.
