I am starting a corporation, which I would like to have serve as the parent company for 3 other web-based companies I own. Can I have several companies with different names under one corporation if I note on all the paperwork, websites, etc. that "This company is a division of _____, Inc."? How does this work?

  1. Yep, of course you can. You can have several companies with different names under one corporation. In fact, you master these serveral companies.

If you want these serveral companies to be the subsidiaries of a "big" company, you should think about tax, combined statements, and related transactions.

Maybe individual operation will be more appropriate.

  2. You should be able to do this.  Corporations have divisions like this -- some divisions are fully incorporated, and some are just names.

I know from my banking experience that companies may market under one name, and have a different legal name for that business.  For instance, you could have XYZ, Inc. "doing business as, or dba" Spacely Sprockets in one city, and Cogswell Cogs in another city.

    Just google, "doing business as".

    For instance...
