I really don't like dairy at all, and I will be taking in milk in cereal when I have it and baked goods, but if I lower my intake on dairy and try to avoid cheese at all costs, can I lose weight?

That and meat, except for chicken.

  1. Not necessarily.  I struggle with my weight as much as any upper middle class woman over 36.

  2. Not necessarily. It might help if you include a workout regimen (which you already do it seems) and cut or minimize your total fat intake.

Calorie intake > calorie burned = excessive weight

Calorie intake < calorie burned = weight loss

    Keep in mind several things:

Muscle is heavier than fat. So you may not be  losing any weight but gaining muscle weight/mass. You may/will look leaner even though your weight stays the same

Deprivation or starvation diets will lead to depletion or loss of essential vitamins and minerals that your body needs especially with a workout program. Be sure to to replace the nutrients you used to get from dairy and meat with plant food sources.

Don't let the "how will I get my protein" syndrome get you off track. You can easily get protein from food sources other than meat and dairy.

Never, ever starve yourself. That's is a good way to fail and can lead to serious health problems.

  3. you will most likely lose weight, as long as you don't have too much junk food. you will have more energy and you will generally feel better. just make sure to get all of the nutrients you need (which isn't too difficult).

and the animals don't mind it either :)

  4. Perhaps. You don't really give a lot of information about the full range and type of foods that you eat, nor how and what amount of exercise you do/don't take. So hard to judge.

While veggie diets often can result in some weight loss, I wouldn't use them as the sole reason for this, nor is weight loss guaranteed. There are many other benefits to veggie eating worth considering.

Edit: Allie, weight loss should not be a battle. Excess weight comes from eating the wrong foods for the body (foods of animal origin, and processed, fried and refined foods) and lack of exercise. How many times have you seen an animal in the wild overweight?

You can happily gorge yourself on nature's best: wholefoods! Whole fruits and vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds. Along with a little exercise, this will be all you need over time to lose and maintain a healthy weight. I recommend Dr John McDougall's site for doing this properly, with good tips and guidance: www.drmcdougall.com

  5. you can but i doubt you will. you might fill your diet with snacks, and gain weight.

  6. As long as you keep your diet well balanced, and keep up the excercise, you will lose weight on this!! I have been a vegan for about 3 months, and I've lost 25 Lbs, and counting. Be sure to take your multi-vitamins and a B-12 supplement.

  7. I stopped eating meat 3 months ago and lost 35 lbs in less than 2 months (I kid you not).

I rarely eat dairy, and if I don't eat it...no problem.

I was very overweight and my body absolutely needed to release the excess weight.

Since then I've lost an addition 20 lbs and my clothes feel looser.

  8. Lo carb diets dont work unless you stick with them forever, othrwise like Atkins, it all comes back and then some if you s***w up eating carbs and sugar. You want a balanced diet that allows both, dairy and meat. Weight watchers is great as it does this, allows you to lose 2-3 pounds a week, not starve, eat like a normal person and still keep the weight off. I have been on weight watchers for over a year, eaten like a human being and kept the weight off and am still losing, also, no low blood sugar like you might get with the other diets that are lo carb or super restrictive.  cheese and meat are fine to eat in moderation. You need some for healthy bones, skin, hair. Trust me, I tried em all and this is the only one that has kept the weight off, left me eating my favorite things, in moderation and I am still losing.

  9. yup

  10. I did.

I stopped eating ALL types of animal flesh, dairy and eggs.

I also stopped eating refined sugar and processed flour products.

Lost almost 35 Kilos over a five month period.

In their place I ate masses of fresh fruit and fresh vegetables and sprouted lentils everyday, lots of water and daily exercise.

Calcium fortified non-dairy substitutes are available (i.e.) have rice milk, almond milk or soy milk, on your cereal instead of dairy milk.

    .

  11. yea but its not healthy

  12. Yes, but you will also miss out on calcium and protein if you do not substitute.

  13. Depends what you start eating in its place.

If you stop eating dairy and meat and replace it with junk food, you will gain weight.

If you replace it with healthy food, you should lose weight.

  14. Regardless of the type of food you eat, if you eat too many calories for the amount of energy used by your body, you will not not lose weight.

  15. Yes! Well thats my personal opinion...I became a vegan about 2 weeks ago, and I've already lost 8 lbs! The funny part is my gym membership doesn't start until next week (so I haven't exercised yet) . Its crazy how much unnecessary c**p is in meat, dairy, & other junk food. If you stop eating a majority of dairy & meat, your almost guaranteed to lose weight, since fruits & veggies burn off so quickly. Good luck!
