Just wanted to mention that I am only concerned that the new potential employer may contact my current employer and that I may be fired. I am by no means trying to hide anything.

  1. They shouldn't, but you can request this when you submit or have an interview. Good luck with the job hunting.

  2. Yes, and you need to be prepared that they will.  But usually most employers will tend to limit which questions they ask.

Also, it depends on which job industry you are in.  For example, if you are in the law field applying for a job in a law office, you can pretty much bet that your current employer will be called.  Lawyers are pretty thick together and they compare notes on employees, wages they pay, etc.

    Good luck.

  3. unless you state that you do not want your current employer contacted, yes.

  4. they can call without approval even if you mark not to on an application because an app is not a legal document but on a resume your not supposed to provide contact info so dont worry about it

  5. Absolutely.  Usually employers just add that question to an application to see what your reply would be.

There is no law that prohibits them from contacting your ex employer even if you request it.  If I was hiring someone who did that, it would automatically cause me to consider that they might be HIDING something.

But your ex employer is legally limited as to what they can say about you.

  6. Unless you expressly stated that you don't want them contacting your current employer, then yes, you just gave your consent by sending the resume in the first place.
