If I support my parents can I claim that in my taxes?

I live in Canada and was wondering if I support my parents can I claim that in my taxes.My parents are working and don't live with me though.Please let me know.If yes then how do I show that...do I pay them with cheques or something?

  1. There are deductions for taking care of a parent, but they need to live with you and not earn also of $$.

  2. Sorry, I'm not familiar with Canadian tax law.

    In the US, you can claim your elderly parent as a dependent if his income is less than $3,300 a year.

  3. Not living with you, the answer is a simple no, you cannot deduct the cost.
