Question:

If I take my D-SLR into Busch Gardens, will it be safe in the lockers (heat and theft)?

I have no option but to take it along for the ride--I'm going on vacation for two weeks following the day. I'm scared to leave it in the car for twelve hours. Will it be okay in the lockers? I imagine those get hot as well. And what about direct sunlight while I'm walking around? Thanks

  1. I definately wouldn't leave it in the car.  I don't know about the lockers.

I have taken a DSLR around a very hot Sea World in San Antonio for the day, though, and it was fine!  I did notice the camera getting hot when I was walking around, and eventually I shaded it with a sun visor.  That and stepping into the shade often really helps out.

Are there water rides there?  If so, then I'd put my camera into a locker for the duration of the ride (or pop it into a very thick plastic zipper bag and wrap a tote bag around it at least).

Besides, you might see stuff you really want to photograph there!

  2. Why take your DSLR and then not use it?

I was a staff photographer at Sea World and we walked around day in and day out and never had to  worry about the heat effecting our cameras.

Now I shoot editorial and sports ... the same thing applies ... my cameras are out in the sun most of the day and I have no problems.

Carry and use your camera or leave it home or in the safe in your hotel.
