Will that make them more or less claustrophobic (digging and whatnot, mind you I already have a dig box, they just dig at the door) when they're indoors?

What's your opinion?

  1. Taking your ferret on a walk won't help being claustrophobic. I don't really think your ferrets are claustrophobic. Ferrets love to dig. It is a natural instinct. Mine do it all the time. They try to dig at the carpet by the door so they can get out. Ferrets are super curious and want to know where things go. but just because walking them won't stop them from digging doesn't mean that you can't take them on walks. My ferrets love to go outside but make sure their leash is on tight and don't get frustrated if they just want to explore and not actually walk. Your ferrets will want to dig outside too. They will dig in the dirt and even tunnel in the snow if it is deep enough (but if you take them outside the windchill has to be above 20 degrees ferienhight and take them in if they are shivering too much or even at all). When you let them explore don't let them go into bushes because they use that to twist up their leash and wiggle out of it (and you don't want that.) If you ferret does get out of it's leash don't panic. If it is in a bush don't let it get out of your sight and try to grab it. I would always have somebody esle with you when your ferret is exploring that way there are two people to watch the ferret so you can take a break and so that if he escapes his leash you will be able to get him easier. And if your ferret goes outside make sure that he is getting anual rabbies shots. (he should be getting them anyways)

  2. It will not make them more or less claustraphobic. They love their walks. But because they are naturally curious, they are wanting to go outside to explore even more. We own 4 ferrets, and they do the same thing. They just want out to play! Ours also do it to the doors in the hallway if they want in there, but only to the rooms they have been in before. The 1 other room the leave alone, they have no clue whats behind it.
