If I think that I know who my Father is but he has passed, can I use a DNA sample from 1 of his children?

How can I find my Father when I don't have any info on who he is?

  1. I thought you said that you knew who your father was.  

    yes you can use DNA from a potential half sib to see if you have a shared parent.

    if you have no info on him then you can't find him.  you need to speak to your mother and people who knew your mother at the time she was pregnant with you to get any info on your dad.  once you have a name, a last known address or last known location or where his family is from then you can start your search.  But until you have some very basic info then you can't start.

    Why do you need to find someone who has never taken part in your life?   I would think if he wanted to be in your life he would have made an effort.  If you are curious about medical history then DNA can help you there.  There are a great many number of tests that you can take to tell you if you have potential to have something.
