If I title & register a car in my name, but it is for my brother's use, what are the possible ramifications?

  1. Your the owner and are responsible for any thing the car is involved in


  2. -If he has an accident and has no insurance, you will be responsible for the damages.  

    -If he commits a crime in the car, the police will come looking for you.

All of the above, and possibly jeopardizing the insurance coverage on that vehicle.  Some insurance policies have conditions and exclusions that may not permit other operators of your vehicle.   So if he gets into an accident, and even though you have coverage, your insurance may not pay a dime to anyone because of a policy exclusion.   And that's just money down the drain.  I'm guessing he doesn't have a license which is why he can't get vehicle and insurance.  That's a big no-no.  Would you be willing to go to jail for your brother?  If so, would he do the same for you?  If you don't think that he would, then don't do it.

  4. Even if your brother has insurance, as the owner you will have 100% liability in case of a negligence lawsuit.
