If I took 6 months paid leave from my job for something which I thought would benefit me......................

...should I expect my career to be at the same level as the poor mug who worked for those 6 months?

  2. You should expect to pick up where you left off, not have to go back to square 1.

    But no maternity law requires a company to promote someone who's at home with the baby.

  4. The annual appraisel should reflect the quality of work put in over the 12 months. You could put in 6 months of hard graft and achieve your annual targets and the poor mug could drag his heels and reach the same targets in a longer time period. Its all relative!

  5. Not in any challenging and competitive field you shouldn't.
