You should expect to pick up where you left off, not have to go back to square 1.

But no maternity law requires a company to promote someone who's at home with the baby.

If your employer valued you, they'd be glad to have you back, if not ... well, I guess not.

The annual appraisel should reflect the quality of work put in over the 12 months. You could put in 6 months of hard graft and achieve your annual targets and the poor mug could drag his heels and reach the same targets in a longer time period. Its all relative!
