I was reading about how gulonolactone oxidase enzymes in other animals help convert i think it was glucose sugars to a precursor to vitamin C which then converts to vitamin C. and humans though don't have the enzymes though. Which is why humans need to get vitamin C in there diet if I can just keep taking the enzymes instead would it make my body produce its own so I won't have to woryy about my diet as much because I lack vitamin C in my diet since orange juice has been getting expensive and I drink it up fast.

  1. No.

Taking a supplement of an enzyme won't help, you'd simply digest it.  It would have to get into cells to actually work.

It would be more expensive than just getting food or vitamin C tablets.

Edit: That's a protease, not a cellular metabolic enzyme.  GULO would denature at low pH's.  Even if it survived, there would be no way for cells to uptake it.

  2. OJ is not the only source of Vitamin C. Tomatoes, lemons, kiwifruits, bananas, cucumbers, melons, potatoes, cabbages, carrots, strawberries, garlic, spinach, apples, pears ans many other fruits and vegetables, caw and goat milk, calf liver, beef liver, chicken liver, lamb liver, lamb brain , lamb heart and many other foods are very good sources of vitamin C. The problem is that vitamin C is very sensitive to heat and will break down once it is cooked. As long as you eat enough raw vegetables in your diet, you do not need to take any kind of supplement to get the necessary amount of vitamin C for your body. The daily recommended does of vitamin C is between 40 to 90 milligrams per day (depending on what country and what institutes recommendations you want to follow).

Too much vitamin C can cause indigestion, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, iron poisoning (vitamin c increases the absorption of iron), kidney stones (this hasn't been proved yet but it is a common belief in medical community).
