  1. Depends on your state's law.  For Maryland it is, Calvert is very good, but far too structured for me.  I homeschooled because I didn't want to do "school at home"  or "school in a box"  -- but I did use it the first two years - and it gave me a good basis for developing my own ideas of what I wanted to do in a school year with my kids.

  2. Depends on whom you're asking and why.

Amongst homeschoolers, some purists would claim it isn't homeschooling.  But most homeschoolers use a variety of curriculum and support and would recognize it as homeschooling.

Legally, it depends on your state's laws.  Most states would allow you to use their satellite program as your curriculum without any problem.  Some might consider it a private school program from a legal point of view.  Each state's laws are different, so you'd have to check your state laws to be sure.

  3. Yes, But Calvert is the best school in home schooling

  4. if you do it at home and it's school it's homeschooling :)

  5. Legally it depends on the state.

To the homeschool community it depends on the ones in your area and how they feel about.

I strongly prefer independent homeschooling, but that doesn't mean you are not a homeschooler if you use a satellite program.

  6. There are many forms of home schooling, the beauty of home schooling is just that, all the options available to parents outside a traditional brick, and mortar school.

If you choose to do school @ home , meaning having a set curriculum, with a schedule to follow, and requirements to fulfill set by a school, Academy, or on-line charter, and that is how you want to school your children it can be considered a form of home schooling.

It would not be my choice for the children;  being in control of our family's schedule, the method of schooling, the choice of books;their content, and the materials we would like to use is not something I would want to give up.

The reason we home school is to have all those choices, and to adjust the curriculum to their learning style, not to make them adjust to it.

  7. Do you mean legally? Or by the homeschooling community?

Legally, I'm not sure. It might be seen as private school enrollment by the government. You'd have to check with a homeschool support group in your area. However, it might not make a difference--you can probably follow all the steps to be recognized as a legal homeschooler where you live, AND be signed up with Calvert.

By the homeschooling community, some will say that it isn't, others will say that it is.

  8. Yes, it's still considered homeschooling.  Some states, in fact, require that you be a part of a satellite or umbrella program if you are not a certified teacher.

There are some homeschoolers that may not consider it so, but technically and legally, yes, it is.

  9. As long as you don't leave the home, yes.

Unschool is also a form of homeschool.

When you go to another location it's basically Alternative School.

  10. In my mind, defining homeschooling as strictly as "if you do school in the home it is homeschooling" isn't right.  I think it depends upon two facets.

1st - who is paying? If the school district is funding things, it is not homeschooling.  Mainly I ask for that distinction because I want to be sure the general public understands that homeschoolers do NOT get any tax funds (nor do I want any!).

2nd - who has control over curriculum? If you as the parent have control over what you choose to use to meet your state regulations, then you are homeschooling.  Maybe you are using K-12 or Calvert, but if you as the parent chose that route and are not being pushed into it to get taxpayer money, then it is homeschooling.
