Question:

If I use the flash on a Canon Powershot A590 to take a picture indoors do I need to change the ISO?

My wife and I have never owned a digital camera, so I am trying to purchase the one that is right for us. According to expert and user reviews, photos taken with the A590 tend to get grainy when the ISO is 400 or higher. My living room has poor lighting at night unless we are standing within 6 feet of the overhead lights. So if I was trying to take a picture with the Canon A590 in one of those dimly lit areas of my living room would I need to change the ISO if I were to use the onboard flash?

  1. The Powershot A590, when set on Auto, will take care of the ISO setting for you when you use the flash, and will often adjust it down.  If it doesn't, that means you really didn't have enough light.  Manually adjusting the ISO down would lessen the "noise", but the image would be too dark.

The higher the ISO, the less light you need, but you are going to get "noise" with many cameras at a high ISO.

I would suggest going to imaging-resource.com and looking up the A590, then read some of the comparisons they make in regards to shooting in low light.  Good luck!
