In my job description as a aviation machinists mate it said that I could also volunteer as an aircrewman, if I chose to go into aircrew will I still work on aircraft or will my mos change and will I still get the aircraft mechanics training? My recruiter said that I would have to change to a AW.

  1. You can either be an AW or AD. As an AD, it is possible to get an aircrew billet and perform inflight troubleshooting and repair, but there are not really that many of these jobs and they are hard to get into.

If you become an AD, odd are you will not be aircrew.

As an AW, being aircrew will be your primary job and pretty much all you do.

If your main desire is to be aircrew, then go AW. If you want to work on engines, then go AD.
