  1. there are two different class a license. the first class a will be vehicle towing trailer in excess of 10,000 pounds. the second type of class a would be the cdl which requires air brake, combinations, general knowledge. these are for tractor trailer operator at 80,000 pounds.

    The license examiner will need to know which type you want. most think of the cdl type. You will want the non-cdl class a for trailering. this can be done as long as the towed vehicle shows a manufacturer plate of 10,001 or more pounds.
