If I want to buy a car for $ 1,500, and put 7 or 8 hundred down, would a used car lot let me pay off the rest?

I'm just looking for a car to last me through next year, and realize something under $1,000 might be junk-is it possible at some used car lots to put down that much and make payments on the rest? I'm just curious, it's been years since I've bought a used car really cheap

  1. You need to ask the dealer that, really, not Y!A.

I used to work in a motorbike shop that would allow people to do stuff like that, as long as they made a pretty good down payment and could pay some money each week.

I know I bought a car from a dealer for $10,500 and gave him $8500 and he let me take the car, because he was tinting the windows and fitting new tires when I paid the balance, but he also knew me through racing.

Short answer is some dealers will, some wont. When the time comes, ask them and see how they react.

  2. If you're going to buy a car for $1,500, you should just pay cash. The interest isn't worth it.

  3. maybe a small mom and pop car shop. Otherwise NO.
