If I want to format the hard disk on a Mac, how do I do it?

I have an old Mac G4 that someone gave me for free. I only have the computer and none of the peripherals. If I want to format the hard disk to start completely over, how do I do this? I only have a Windows keyboard and a Samsung LCD monitor to use with it. I have the disks for OS X Leopard.

  1. use disk utility.


  2. put the  leopard dvd in the dvd drive

    close the drive

    reboot the mac  hold c whiel rebooting

    the macintosh will boot of  the  cd rom

    follow the instructions on  the screen

    when you get to  install options  click on options  and choose  erase and install  

    mac os  x will do the rest
