  1. If you are planning on doing medical research or academic medicine, the research oriented schools prefer you to have an advanced degree in on of the sciences.  Which one depends on your interests.

But if you are planning on primarily treating patients, the primary care oriented schools prefer you just take the pre-requisite courses and get a major in some other area of interest.  That doesn't mean you can't get a degree in one of the sciences and do primary care, it just means that you don't have to.

  2. It doesn't matter.  In fact, you don't even need to major in any of these.  My dad majored in Economics before going to Medical school, and he's one of the most respected doctors in Northern CA.

They start you at the beginning in med school.  A lot of people think you need one or the other science majors, but you don't.

  3. biology

  4. Everything,...more and more new discoveries happen every day why leave yourself out.....good fortune

  5. You need to look at entrance criteria for medical schools.  Go to some schools websites, the criteria will be on there.  If your goal is medical school, you need to work the system.  Many look at the MCAT heavily.  The MCAT is biology physics, chemistry(physical and organic) Some schools take your best two years of marks, others require a full degree then drop lowest marks.  Thus, you need to take courses that are 'easy' to get good grades in ex psychology, as electives in your degree.  But the best thing to do would be to talk to older students at your university.  Find out easier classes, easier profs etc.  It is possible to get in without trying to work the system, but almost everyone does.  But short answer in this case would likely be biology.

However, you need to seriously think of what you will do if you don't get in.  So you need to balance putting all your eggs in one basket vs a solid plan B.  Having a degree in Biology does not make you extremely employable.

  6. microbiology id say

  7. My hubby is in med school. He has a degree in Biology with a pre-med emphasis. However there are people with various degrees in his class from English to Music. So take which one you feel more comfortable with and do extracurricular activities :)
