I need to know what to study to be able to make and produce maps especially in the format used in GPS or SAT NAV systems. I would also like to study that in Canada.

Thanks so much for your help.

  1. It depends on which part of map-making interests you the most. If you are more interested in the technology of GPS and SATNAV then I think you will find GIS programs more interesting than a program based on geography itself. There a lot of those types of programs in Canada. Of course, depending on the level you want to work with the technology at you could come from almost any technical background such as engineering, programming, user interface or even industrial design. Look around and see what looks like it's something you might enjoy doing for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for a number of years.

  2. Simply put, cartography is the science of creating maps.  Perhaps you can search for school that offer this degree.  You can also pursue a degree in Geography or in some instances Engineering (like civil or geodetic).  Some degrees offer courses in Geographic Information Systems which has become essential in cartography.
