I am going to be a junior in high school this year and I know that when I graduate I want to do something involving aviation...preferably a pilot such as commercial piloting. What's a good place to start? Air force?

  1. Not sure what country your in the reserves worked for Bush

  2. Yes, the Air Force would be the perfect place to start.  Put in at least 2 years and you can start getting the training you need; without spending thousands on pilot's lessons.

  3. The Air Force.  I've known several pilots and this is where they all started.  Good luck.  You have a lot of learning ahead of you.

  4. Try the US Army Warrant officer program. Many army pilots go onto be commercial, (my brother in law) and many start with  helicopters, everyone and their brother who wants to fly joins the air force, but the other branches all fly  as well, Navy, Marines, and Army. You might want to know right away that there are stricter qualifications to be a pilot than nearly anything else in the military before you persue this, My Father for example at 6' 6"  was to tall to be a pilot in his day, and my sister who was a pilot for the Army and flew an Apache, was almost to short (Really it was her arm span)  Eye sight, night vision, physical fitness etc, all matter. There are non military routes to being a pilot but they can be expensive training programs where you have to pay  to go instead of getting paid to learn. I know that some schools have Aviation components (Parks College) But I don't know a great deal about these.  Any who, I suggest finding some aviation chat forums and talking to some pilots who have done both, My brother in law is now a private instructor at a regional airport, if you haven't taken a few private lessons at your local airport, you definitely should!
