  1. If it's fabric or yarn, there are many natural dyes like beets, onion skin, indigo. These may also work on non-natural materials... Check out:

    http://www.naturaldyes.org/

    http://www.naturaldyes.org/sources.htm

    http://www.aurorasilk.com/info/natural-d...

Some of these sites have recipes, others sources for purchasing natural dyes.

  2. Searching the Web, I see listings for "organic dyes" and "organic paints".  This suggests that you can find commercial products to do the job.

If you want to make the coloring agent yourself, there are articles to make your own paint- sounds messy to me!

When you check the commercial products out, you'll have to know what the object is made of. Is it metal, fabric, wood, or some kind of plastic? What kinds of plastic, metal, etc.? If it is a commercial product, a recycling logo would tell you what kind of plastic it is.

Oh, yes: What color do you want?

    That should get you started!

  3. You do not say what you want to color..

          Is is fabric?

          Is it metal?

          Is it plastic?

Each have distinct methods for coloring it.. some are organic dyes, some are mineral dyes, some are paints that have organic components and some mineral components..
