If I wanted to search out Ghosts, what equipment would I need?

We have this haunting at work, and I think he is trying to tell us something, but we can't pick it up. I'm thinking we should have a tape recorder, but previous attempts have failed. I am wondering if anything additional is needed.

No equipment necessary.

In such cases, generally speaking, the only thing they want to know is "how to get home."

They don't know they're dead and don't understand why no one will talk to them.

Prayer is the best way to help. Many shamans and the like will say bust out the sage and "cleanse" the area. All that does is kick them out. Prayer helps them to move on.

Eternal rest grant unto them (him), Oh Lord. Your perpetual light shine upon them (him).

Have anyone and everyone willing to participate say this repeatedly throughout the day.

Ok this is what I use.I am a paranormal investigator.I use a digital voice recorder.You can buy the one I use at any local Radio Shack for around 60 dollars.It comes with software to start out with so you can listen and edit your EVP'S.(make sure you ask questions and pause before asking the next one)I have had alot of good results with that.Far as capture on video and camera,I recommend using a digital camera with a flash and no strap.Always remove the strap.(the more pixel and better camera you use the better your results will be)Also if your going to use a regular camera 35m/with flash, then always use 600-1000 speed in film.The higher the film speed the more you will catch.Far as video cameras go,use a dvd camera that has night vision.It is very important that when your out at night on an investigation to have a good light source.It is best to start out little and work your way up with better equipment as time goes by.Because Paranormal investigators do not get paid they work out of pocket.Flash lights won't cut it as a camera light source.Also you can use a meter to read temperature readings in the area.And when your picking up a reading that's when to snap a picture to aim your video camera.Please do your research on how to do a paranormal investigation before jumping right into it.And learn how to use your equipment before starting.You will get better results if you know what your doing.And never trespass  always get premission before going on any investigations so you will not be arrested.Als even at night I do not use a flash light.They hinder any real evidence as in a picture could be ruined if a flash light glare is in the picture as well.Also if you want good results stick with it and realize it takes time and lots of Patience to get anything good.Mainly all you will find is lots of Orbs in pictures and such.I get more Evp's then anything but have gotten some very good pictures.And Orb action on video.It wouldn't hurt to use the first few investigations as pratice runs either.It also helps to always do your research on the location you plan on investigating and to speak with any witnesses.Good luck with your new hobby.Happy hauntings.

The tape recorder and video re cored works great watch things like " Ghost Hunters " on SCI-FI channel Most Haunted on Discovery to see what they use.

Try doing more research on the specific incidences.

EVP and video and photos arent going to get you anywhere if it is caused by natural things.

Also, keep in mind that co-workers love to make up stories to spook people who believe in ghosts. Everywhere I have ever worked we have done that.

If you are sure this is not the case, then start looking for things that might be natural causes.

Until you can absolutely rule out natural causes, you probably shouldnt go looking for ghosts.

Now on the other hand, if you and a group of co-workers are actually seeing apparitions walking around, that is a good sign that it isnt a prank.

That's a good question, because speaking scientifically, there is no way to know how a ghost (if they even exist) would interact with the physical world. There is no body of theory and not even a single experiment which supports a method by which an actual, verified ghost can be detected.

Regarding paranormal investigation, paranormal investigators go out and use their equipment (EM detector, EVP recorder, thermal imaging, etc) at some purportedly haunted location and when they detect something that appears unexpected to them, they may attribute that to a ghost. But all they have shown is an EM reading or a temperature... not a ghost.

But it would probably save you some money just to realize that whatever you think is happening, if you dig around and don't close your mind to rational inquiry, you will probably find out that there is nothing supernatural going on.

What kind of recorder were you using. If it is one with a tape you should try an external mic, it keeps the noise from the inside parts from picking up. try a different recorder. Different recorders and different mics all have there own preset limits for recording levels....see what the limits are on yours and then compare to different ones and try to go on a lower limit under the human voice limits..........

If you are trying to capture EVPs, you will need to transfer the audio recorded to a computer, to enhance and limit backround noise. Cool Edit Pro is the program of choice for that.

If you are looking to track and support evidence of the existence of the spirit, a digital thermometer is a good buy, as is an EMF meter.

But, just seting up a laptop, with a mic and the cool edit program, is probably the easiest way you may get something.

You should definitely call the Ghost Busters and ask them to borrow their ectoplasm box trap. Besides that, you just need a few pairs of Depends for when you soil yourself and a good sturdy net to catch any ghost too big to fit into the box trap.
