I'm a runner and if I had a baby would it end up as a runner like me?.

I was really wanting my baby to be a athlete is there any way I could make sure my baby would turn out to enjoy sports like me?

  1. this is something they learn by watching the parents, not usually a genetic predisposition. if your child sees you having healthy habits like running they will likely develop similar healthy habits. they might not take up running as you have but they will likely be more active and more apt than other kids to find activities and sports that they do like and involve themselves with it.

i actually wasn't TOO active before i had a baby, to lose the weight i walked it off, with my son in the stroller. after that i would always like to be outside and once he got old enough to walk around he was kicking around a ball in the back yard and playing soccer...so now i play with him.

let your kids lead you and let them decide what sports they like, just encourage any healthy habit they decide to pick up through the years. and be aware of being pushy, but don't worry too much about it...as long as you don't have a particular sports aim for their life you will likely be happy with whatever activity they choose.

i think its fantastic that you care enough not to want to push them at something you want, but still want them to be active.

  2. Raise your child to know sports and put them in sports at a young age.

  3. Not necessarily. Both my parents were great athletes, going to state throughout highschool, and I just wasn't interested in sports. I played/participated in some, but usually they just bored me. My aunt is a long distance runner and neither of her kids are athletic at all.

Every child is different. If you show your interest in sports, odds are they will like sports too (but not always). There is no way to "make sure" though.

  4. Is this a serious question?

  5. There is a likelihood that your child will like sports but it is not necessarily true and there is nothing you can do.

You are right is not good to force your children to do or like sports.  Just encourage them and accept them for who they are.

    Good luck!!!

  6. You would have a high probability of your child being an athlete if your child's father was an athlete.  With the two of you making a baby, it's likely that the baby will have those genes.
