If this doesn't actually happen, just think of hydroplaning. How do I recover? Do I hit on the brakes immediately? Do I steer to a certain direction? How do I recover from a skid or a 360 or an uncontrollable swing by my car on the freeway?

  1. google it

  2. A 360 would leave you facing in your original direction, so you would not need to do anything to recover.  I think you meant a 180.

    See source below.

  3. You must act before the car's heading is too far off its ground

track.  Steer into the skid.  If you have rear-wheel drive, let off

the gas pedal.  If you have front-wheel drive, press on the gas

pedal slightly.  Letting off with a FWD car will have the same effect as braking by adding to the rotational momentum

around the center of gravity (the firewall).  The angle of heading

to ground track necessary to maintain control decreases as

speed increases.  That gives you less time to react.

  4. If you do find yourself in a skid, remain calm, ease your foot off the gas, and carefully steer in the direction you want the front of the car to go. For cars without anti-lock brakes, avoid using your brakes. This procedure, known as "steering into the skid," will bring the back end of your car in line with the front. If your car has ABS, brake firmly as you steer into the skid.

If you find yourself hydroplaning, do not brake or turn suddenly. This could throw your car into a skid. Ease your foot off the gas until the car slows and you can feel the road again. If you need to brake, do it gently with light pumping actions. If your car has anti-lock brakes, then brake normally; the car's computer will mimic a pumping action, when necessary.

A defensive driver adjusts his or her speed to the wet road conditions in time to avoid having to use any of these measures.

  5. This is what we are taught to do on ice here in the mid-west and it works. If you car is just beginning to move, let off from the accelorator, steer into the skid and gently bring your car undercontrol. Do not hit the brake as you could cause your car to flip. As your vehicle slows and the tires begin to regain traction you will be able to feel it in the steering wheel.

    Good luck.
