  1. It's a bit hard not knowing a bit of likes/dislikes but I do think you all would enjoy checking out Covent Garden, easily accessible by the Tube (subway).  I myself as a teenager growing up when I would travel over to England with my mum to visit with family - loved going to the Cathedrals and Castles etc.  The history behind it all is truly amazing.  Can always learn something everyday!  Definately a bonus for you all.  To walk in the paths of people many many years before us - amazingly interesting.  Not too mention there is tons of shopping - always a blast just to look - can be expensive but if you hunt around you'll come across some gems.  I was just there beginning of May and visited Windsor Castle which was really good and not busy at all!  The flag was also up which meant The Queen was in residence as well.  Very nice to walk around the outside of the castle by the river, tons of swans!!  Get ready to take tons of pictures!!  Do yourselves a favour - save up loads and go - enjoy yourselves together as a family (she wont be at home forever!), life is too short, enjoy an amazing vaca together....on that note I will say "not if" but "when you do" go to London together "have a fab time!!"  Take some time to google things you can do together, that's part of the fun of it all, plan together!! :)

  2. Oxford Street is some of the best one stop shopping in London, so that is probably something that the entire family could enjoy since there is a little something for everyone. A teenager would be in heaven. Only word of caution: the dollar is horribly weak and doesn't go far when it comes to shopping, but even just browsing can be a lot of fun. The Tower of London is also very interesting and if you go to Piccadilly Circus there is a ticket booth that sells tickets (including discounted ones on the day of or the day before a show) for all the theater performances going on in the West End. It is sort of like Broadway in NY so that's definitely something to see while you are there. With so many plays and musicals going all the time you are sure to find at least one that everyone will enjoy.
