  1. It depends on the airlines and why the flight is canceled. Normally, if  it is canceled due to weather, then you are on your own to schedule a new flight and to find a place to stay. You will get a credit from the canceled flight and it will go to the new flight at no extra cost.  You will not be left without a way home if you have already paid for your ticket.  You will need to go to the ticket counter for your airlines and they will assign you another flight.

Go to the web site for your airlines and check on the policy before you fly.

  2. if your booking was confirmed and your flight was cancelled, it is the airlines fault; and they have to book you on another flight; in the meantime that you are waiting for the next flight, the airline has to book you in a hotel at their cost.
