Question:

If I was stopped by a police officer and let go with a warning, are my parents notified?

I'm 17 years old, live in California, was driving home from a friend's house at about 1:30am. I was listening to music and just wasn't thinking when I ran a stop sign accidentally. I was pulled over, remained calm and polite, and gave the officer my driver's license. He asked where I was coming from, and then continued to ask, basically, if I had been drinking. I said I had had nothing to drink (I really hadn't) and then provided proof of insurance. After going back to his vehicle with my license, he came back and told me to just drive home safely, and I thanked him. So, my first question is if my parents will be notified (via mail or telephone). Secondly, does this incident go on any sort of record? Will I get a ticket if I'm pulled over again? And if this database exists, how often is the information cleared? (I'm moving soon and will hardly ever be driving a car anymore, so I highly doubt I'll get pulled over again.) Thank you ahead of time for answering!

  1. I'm pretty sure nothing happens... nothing on your record, no notification to your parents... but I'm not 100%.

You are lucky.  That's after curfew!  Well at least for 16-17 year olds in AZ.  I ran a red light driving my friend to work at 6 AM (I guess I missed the yellow?  I was too tired to remember...).  She called me at 5:45 AM and said she needed a ride so I went and got her.  Got pulled over and got a ticket.  For being a d**n good friend.  I'm your age.  Wasn't on a cell phone, no loud music, not speeding, was nice to the cop...

I get to go to court on Tuesday and the ******* thing stays on my record because of what the violation was.  Get points on my license, too.  Get to pay $130 for the ticket and have to go to at least one driving school that will cost at least $60.

Swear, that's the last time I do something nice for my slightly hungover friend.  (The cop didn't know she was hungover, though.)
