If I formated my hard drive would I still have windows vista installed? I just got a laptop with about 80 GB of c**p I don't need and can't uninstall some of it for some reason. On my family computer (runs XP) I was able to delete all data put on the computer so it was like new. Is this possible to do with vista and if so is it done the same way?

  1. NO

    Format=NEW DRIVE

    No Software, No OS, NOTHING...

    And if you ordered a laptop pre-configured, you would need to buy a new copy of Vista (or XP) and load it, because even if you used the likely restore section of the HDD you'd just end up with all of the stuff that was on the machine when purchased.

  2. If you format your hard drive, you'll have to reinstall the operating system.  You'd be starting with a completely blank hard drive.  After reinstalling, the only programs on the computer would be the operating system.  (No Internet Explorer, no Office, nothing.)  These will need to be reinstalled as well.  (Possibly from the same disk as the OS restore.)

  3. formating a hard drive will erase all data on the hard drive

  4. You could just format and install XP. . . .

    If you formatted the computer all of the data, including vista, would be gone.  Unless for some reason its on another partition then it would be fine.  You would have to re-install vista after you formatted.

  5. yes you will still have vista go to start>recovery manager>advanced options it will guide you to restore back too factory settings

  6. no u data would be deleted...everythin...even ur os, so u would have to reinstall windows...
