It's for a fiction book I am writing.

it depends on whether or not you are found guilty or you admit to the crime under the influence... if so did the person in your "so-called" story died ?????

It would be considered something like "aggravated assault with intent to cause grave bodily harm". If it was considered 1st degree assault (you wanted to do it, you meant to even if you weren't drunk, or you weren't drunk enough to impair judgment), you'd probably get 7 years, off in 2 1/2. If it was 3rd degree assault (aka "Oops"), you'd get 2 years, probably just probation.

It depends on the crime you were convicted of.

Assault, Agrivated Assault, Attempted murder...

Each has a differant sentence.  Also do you have a prior record.  i.e. is this your third strike?

Being intoxicated when you stab someone would be more a liability to you than a benefit on conviction and/or sentnecing I would think.

well hun it depends, if it wasnt out of self defense you could be charged with attempted murder pending on where you stabbed him and any other circumstances. Nowadays its hard to tell with our judicial system, and depending on yours and the persons criminal background

Well it would depend. Did you intent to try and kill the person? Was it in the middle of a fight? You could be charged any where from attempted murder to assault
