  1. I know your question asks about punishment, but I would first try to get him some help because it sounds like there may be something wrong outside of teenage rebellion.  Seeing a counselor is the best option, in my opinion.  That counselor might be able to give you suggestions on how to deal with this because they'd be able to deal with the complexity of the situation.

  2. the only punishment for shoplifting is prison.

  3. you would not neglect your school work, and I wouldn't either. unless your an imbecile, which it appears your not.

you shoplift, you spend time in jail.

neglect your chores, you get no money.

keep up this immature behavior and your out on your *** at 18.

  4. no, you got to learn on your own

  5. I would call the cops and have you thrown in a jail cell for a few hours and scare the p**s out of you...

  6. My response to your behavior would depend on your age.....however since we are discussing shoplifting and skipping school...I would assume you are a teenager. With that in mind....I would possibly handle the situation thus:

We would discuss the situation thoroughly.  During this discussion, I would explain the consequences of the behavior exhibited....then I would explain that as your parent I have no problem allowing the process to see its way to fruition...which means...if you are arrested....

    1.  Plan on staying in jail...I will not get you out.

    2.  Plan on throwing yourself on the mercy of the court...for I will not hire a lawyer to get you off.

    3.  Plan on going to prison...and experiencing the full parameters of the lifestyle.

    4.  Know that it is because I love you that I will allow all of this to happen....so that...in the future you will choose more wisely.

P.S.  I have a son...that made the choices you are mentioning...and I handled it just this way....Today, he has decided to live his life differently...and his choices reflect that.
