If I watched Naruto???

Question

If I watched Naruto and any other anime in Japanese with english subs would it help me learn Japanese....I already do anway but I'm just wondering because I'm trying to learn japanese now and it's really hard. thanks ^_^

Lol. That's how I first attempted to "learn" Japanese a few years ago. Sadly, it didn't work out so well. >> My friend scolded me for using Japanese wrong. (Can't blame her since she's Japanese <<;) But here's an answer from the both of us. Most of it was typed up by me while other parts by her. <- Random insert for unknown reasons. Not really... Reason being, some of the english subs for japanese anime are off. I've been learning Japanese for the past three years and when I watch anime with english subs, a majority of the subs are off. Sometimes it's only off a little but sometimes it can be completely wrong. For instance, I watched an episode of Shugo Chara before and they said "kawaii", obviously, most people should know that it means cute. But in the subs, it said that it was adorable which is actually the english meaning of the word "kawaii ne". It just kind of depends on what anime you watch and where you watch them to see if the subs are direct. If the subs are direct, then you have a chance of learning Japanese. If not, then you can still learn Japanese, but it could be off or you will only learn a small bit of it.

No, it wouldn't help you learn Japanese, but you would pick up some phrases and words.

Only some phrases. Anime will probably help you know some Japanese  but you will actually have to learn Japanese like everyone else.

Probably not, because I've watched anime for years and years, and I've only learned a few words and nothing else.

The most you will be able to learn is afew simple words like 'yes' or 'hello'.

But it would definatly help you to learn correct pronounciation of words.
