Would I have to have power locks for it to work? And it would have to be an automatic car?

  1. be very careful ,if installed on a manual transmission, you have to disable the (clutch to start)feature, and it would be capable of starting in gear, and no, you don't have to have power locks, but that would not give you power locks

  2. Yes, you have to have power locks for the unlocking part of the kit to work, and it doesn't have to be an automatic, but you will need to find a good pro to install it on a manual.

  3. Many retailers, including Best Buy, will not install remote start units on manual transmission vehicles.  You can find remote starters designed for manual transmission, from manufacturers like Compustar and Astra, but finding a shop that will install it may be a challenge.

For keyless entry, your car would need to have power locks, or actuators will need to be installed in your doors. Adding actuators will make the installation much more expensive, mostly because of the labor involved.  You can cut costs by just having an actuator installed in the driver's door, if you want.  Some newer vehicles use cables instead of rods for the door locking system; in these cars, adding actuators may be more difficult or impossible.
