  1. It wouldn't matter.  I know of some pro's who pride themselves on playing inexpensive stock guitars, at least from time to time.  I say Fareed Haque of Garaj Mahal play a Fender Squier strat an entire gig in S.F. about 5 months ago.  And this is a guy who often plays guitars costing thousands.

I'd say the Dean could have better body wood- mahogany instead of basswood.  Lots of people prefer bolt-on necks to set or neck through body- so you've got a rub there.  I love rosewood fingerboards.  It won't be the highest quality, but should be fine.  The dual humbuckers may sound nice to you, and it's easy to replace pickups down the road if you change your mind.

  2. Not at all. My chemical romance, for example, used a squire to record some of there songs on there latest album. A lot of pro's like to show off with there "Extremely crafted" ESP custom, or show off with a Gibson VOS. But the truth is, during recording, they use very cheap guitars. I use a bunch of ESP's, Fender's and Gibson's, but in the recording studio, I'm sitting there with an Epiphone Korina Explorer. I really don't like anything from Dean, I tried it once, and hated the quality, and even the sound.

All guitars are different, so you might have gotten a lucky one, or I might have tried a refurbished one, or something like that. Cheap guitars can last a long time if you take care of it. If you bang it around alot, and use it on stage, expect a maximum lifetime of 3-4 years. Especially during on stage, you spin the guitar around, bang it into an amp or a wall, hit people with it, light it on fire, etc. Whatever you do with it, it won't last for a long time.

One of the reasons why Pro's uses really expensive guitars, is that they can last quite a long time due to their quality and nature. A typical Gibson Les Paul can last for more than 40 years. One of my ESP custom's could probably last up to 30 years. And really, I may or may not be playing live at that point, but if you think about it, it's a long time in "Rockstar Years".

    Hope this Helped!
